Key Influencer - Duncan Au - CEO of the Alberta Energy Regulator

The Government of Alberta has recently announced a restructuring of the board of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), with a stated focus on bringing in more industry and subject matter expertise in the oil and gas, environment, and regulatory sectors. Leading the restructured board will be incoming Chair, Duncan Au, a Fellow of Chartered Professional Accountants and Chartered Financial Analyst with over 30 years of accounting, corporate finance, and energy services experience.

From 2010 to late 2023, Duncan Au served as President, CEO, and Board Director of CWC Energy Services Corp, a drilling and well servicing company that was acquired by Precision Drilling in 2023. Concurrently, he served as President and CEO of JEFETICA Capital, a private equity and corporate finance consulting practice specializing in energy service opportunities.

Prior to these roles, he started his own private energy services company, Richmond Energy Services LP, which was acquired by a public company and became Essential Energy Services Trust in 2006, where he worked as the VP of Business Development and CFO for two years. He has also worked in a VP role at companies such as Ernst & Young and Deloitte. Over the years, he has served on the boards of organizations such as the Canadian Association of Energy Contractors (CAOEC), Enserva, Canadian Energy Executive Association, Calgary Economic Development, and CFA Society of Calgary. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta.
