As municipal leaders prepare to congregate in Edmonton for this year’s Alberta Municipalities conference, there are few staffers from the Government of Alberta that will be busier than Alex Puddifant.

Finishing his first year as Chief of Staff to the Minister of Municipal affairs, Puddifant will play a critical role in meetings between provincial and municipal governments, especially in the coming weeks. He is a graduate of Western University with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Science and Political Science. Before moving to Alberta, Puddifant served with the Ontario Government from 2019 to 2021. There, he began as the executive assistant to the deputy premier before transitioning to a press secretary role (Indigenous Affairs and Energy, Northern Development and Mines).

In June 2021, he moved to Alberta to take a position as the press secretary in Justice and Solicitor General. He would shuffle over to the Energy portfolio the following March before ultimately landing in Municipal Affairs following Danielle Smith’s leadership victory.
