Pete Guthrie is a key influencer in Alberta politics. Guthrie entered the Legislature in 2019 representing the constituency of Airdrie-Cochrane.

Guthrie is well-rounded. He graduated high school in Fort Saskatchewan, attended university in Camrose as well as the University of Alberta. He spent some time in Calgary before moving to Cochrane where he now calls home. Professionally, he is chemical engineer and has owned a small business franchise and a ranch. Guthrie’s experience gives him important perspective into the lives of Albertans from many different walks of life.

Guthrie has gone on the record to challenge Premier Jason Kenney regarding his handling of COVID-19. In September 2021, Guthrie stated that Kenney fed a narrative of anger and division that was unproductive in the already turbulent time and continued to challenge his leadership in the media. Guthrie called for the premier to resign and advocated for a new leader to take the reigns of the party.

Guthrie was among the first vocal caucus supporters for Smith. Before she announced she was running for the UCP leadership this year, Smith was a special guest at a Guthrie event in December 2021.

Rumoured to have turned down cabinet under Jason Kenney’s leadership, Guthrie is now poised to take a senior position in a Danielle Smith government.
