Key Influencer - Rob Miyashiro - NDP Candidate in Lethbridge-West
With the resignation of long-time Alberta NDP MLA Shannon Phillips effective July 1, the official opposition began recruiting potential candidates to fill the province’s only vacant seat in Lethbridge-West. On September 7th, Rob Miyashiro emerged from a close race as the party’s nominee in the upcoming by-election.
Miyashiro most recently ran in the 2023 provincial election for the NDP in Lethbridge-East, finishing second by a mere 636 votes against Minister Nathan Neudorf. He has worked in human services in various capacities for more than four decades and is the current executive director of the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization. Before venturing into the world of provincial politics, Miyashiro also was elected to two terms on Lethbridge City Council.
During the nomination race, Miyashiro earned the endorsement of outgoing MLA Shannon Phillips who won the seat in three consecutive elections. “I support Rob because I know he’ll work hard to send a message in this byelection. A message on health care, CPP, and standing up for Lethbridge.”
