In politics, trust in your team is one of the most important parts of running a successful election campaign. For Rachel Notley and the Alberta NDP, their trust is being placed in a familiar face – Nathan Rotman. He will act as the campaign manager for the 2023 provincial election, and his progressive roots run deep.

Before coming to Alberta, Rotman spent time working as a special assistant to the late former NDP leader Jack Layton (he also worked as an executive assistant for Layton’s wife, Olivia Chow). He quickly rose up the ladder for the federal NDP, going on to serve as the director of field organization, operations & research, and eventually as the national director until 2014.

Rotman’s experience in Alberta began in 2015 when he was brought on to search as the Chief of Staff for the Minister of Finance. In 2016, he was promoted to the position of director of issues management for Rachel Notley when she served as premier. He would eventually become her chief of staff until the NDP lost the 2019 provincial election.
