Key Influencer - Shawn McLeod - Ethics Commissioner

Alberta’s newly-announced Ethics Commissioner, Shawn McLeod, brings with him thirty years of legal and public service experience. After receiving successive Bachelors of Arts and Commerce at the University of Alberta, he earned his Bachelor of Law at the same university in 1994. He worked in various roles as an Associate Lawyer, before joining the Alberta Labour Relations Board as legal counsel, where he remained from 2003-2013. He continued to work in labour relations in various roles in the private sector at companies such as JV Driver Group and Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL).

In 2019 he was appointed the Deputy Minister of Labour and Immigration under the UCP government, where he served until 2023. He would later transition into a role as an advisor on special projects to the government. McLeod lives in Edmonton with his wife and two adult children. He is a proud member of the St'uxwtews (Bonaparte) First Nation.
