Yonathan Sumamo is Alberta’s current Chief of Staff to the Office of the Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services. Serving in this role since the Summer of 2023, he had previously worked as Chief of Staff to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services. He is notably experienced in strategic planning and crisis communications.

In addition to his present public service, Sumamo sits on the board of directors for both the Art Gallery of Alberta and the Edmonton International Film Festival. His combination of professional and volunteerism excellence promoted Edify Magazine to recognize Sumamo as one of Edmonton’s “Top 40 Under 40” in 2023.

Sumamo’s early career has spanned both the private and public sectors, including various past roles in journalism, public relations, and communication. He is an alum of MacEwan University where he specialized in journalism.
