Key Influencer - Cathy Heron - Mayor of St. Albert/President of Alberta Municipalities

Cathy Heron was first elected to St. Albert City Council in 2010, serving for two terms before successfully running for Mayor in 2017. Cathy was recently re-elected as Mayor in the most recent municipal election. She was also elected as the President of Alberta Municipalities (formerly Alberta Urban Municipalities Association) at their Fall Convention, where she has been a member of the Board since 2015 serving as Director, Cities under 500,000 followed by Vice President, Cities under 500,000.

In addition to the numerous Boards and volunteer positions she has held over the years, Cathy previously worked as an Environmental Analyst after earning her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alberta and her Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

In her role as President of Alberta Municipalities she will be a voice for municipalities across the province and lead advocacy efforts provincially and federally. Alberta Municipalities has a strong track record of standing up for the needs of municipalities and we are certain to be hearing much from Ms. Heron in the future. It will be interesting to see her approach to working with the UCP government given that municipal funding under the Local Governments Fiscal Framework will need to be established in the near future.

Alberta’s urban municipalities have elected a strong leader that will be a key influencer in the province for years to come.
