Key Influencer – Samir Kayande, NDP Candidate for Calgary-Elbow

Samir Kayande is a respected Alberta energy analyst and strategy consultant with over 25 years experience in the sector. Kayande will be facing UCP Candidate, Chris Davis, in the upcoming election for the vacant seat of Calgary-Elbow.

Kayande was born in Fort McMurray and moved to Calgary nearly two decades ago where he currently resides with his wife and two children.  He holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University for Alberta and a Master of Business Administration from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon. 

Over the course of his career, Kayande specialized in oil and gas, electrical power, financial services, and new digital platforms for decision making. He has also helped to build a billion-dollar fossil fuel research company and creates software tools for large institutions to invest in energy.

Kayande previously served as Director on the board of the Pembina Institute. He aims to create good-paying jobs for generations to come and believes that a transition to cleaner energy systems will help to make Alberta stronger. He states that Alberta’s sunshine and wind are strengths and has also proposed geothermal energy, hydrogen and carbon capture and storage.
