Born and raised in Northern Alberta, Scott Cyr earned his bachelor’s degree in Management with a double major in accounting and finance from the University of Lethbridge. After years as an accountant in the private sector, Cyr was elected as the MLA for the Bonnyville-Cold Lake district in 2015, representing the Wildrose Party.

He served as Deputy Whip of the Official Opposition from 2015 to 2016, then as the Shadow Minister for Service Alberta under both the Wildrose and UCP Official Oppositions. During his term, Cyr sponsored a private member’s bill protecting victims of non-consensual distribution of intimate images, which passed unanimously.

After the redistribution of electoral boundaries in 2017 joined the ridings of Bonnyville-Cold Lake and Lac La Biche-St. Paul-Two Hills, Cyr decided not to seek re-election in the 2019 provincial election. He returned to politics in 2023, defeating incumbent UCP MLA Dave Hanson by one vote during candidate selection and going on to be elected as the representative for Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul with 75% of the vote.
