Key Influencer – Shannon Marchand – Deputy Minister for Advanced Education

Shannon Marchand is a seasoned public servant, with a career that spans back to 1996 when he first joined the Government of Alberta. His initial twelve years were dedicated to intergovernmental relations and immigration, during which he developed the influential “Supporting Immigrants and Immigration in Alberta” policy framework.

From 2008 to 2020, Marchand served primarily as Deputy Minister in numerous ministries, including the former Alberta Human Services, Culture, Culture and Tourism, Community and Social Services, and Seniors and Housing Ministries. In 2021, Marchand’s portfolio took a major shift, assuming the role of DM for the former ministries of Agriculture, Forestry, and Rural Economic Development and Forestry, Parks, and Tourism before becoming the DM for the current Ministry of Forestry and Parks.

Shannon Marchand was appointed the Deputy Minister of Advanced Education in June 2024.
