Key Influencer – Rebecca Schulz – Minister of Children’s Services
Originally from Saskatchewan, the MLA for Calgary-Shaw is one of many in the United Conservative Caucus to find a home and a political career in Alberta. Rebecca Schulz was first elected to the Alberta Legislature during the 2019 provincial election. In her first term as a holder of public office, she was appointed to cabinet as the Minister of Children’s Services – a portfolio that has proven to be a critical piece in intergovernmental relations with our federal counterparts.
Prior to moving to Alberta, Minister Schulz completed her Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of Saskatchewan and would later complete her Master of Arts in Communication from John Hopkins University. She would go on to spend some time working as a senior communications officer for SaskEnergy before joining the Saskatchewan Government as a media relations officer, and later, a director of communications.
When she moved to our province in 2016, she began working as the director of alumni marketing and communications for the University of Calgary. From there, she would go on to win the nomination for her riding and eventually a seat in the Legislative Assembly.
Minister Schulz has remained at the top of Children’s Services since she began her work as an elected official and has been a key member of Premier Jason Kenney’s cabinet. Following the 2021 federal election, she would engage in lengthy bilateral negotiations to establish a deal that would reduce the cost of child care for Albertans.
