Key Influencer – Bryce Stewart – Deputy Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors
There was a small shuffle of bureaucratic staffers in early January that resulted in some old faces ending up in new places. One of those involves a long-time public servant in Bryce Stewart moving to Transportation and Economic Corridors. He will work closely with Minister Devin Dreeshen to assist the department with carrying out their mandate as set out by Premier Danielle Smith.
Bryce’s career did not always involve public service. From the late 1990’s until 2001, Steward spent time working as an architectural technologist as well as a pipeline drafter before eventually becoming a municipal intern in 2003 for the County of Grande Prairie. He eventually moved to the provincial public service in 2006 where he has held more than a handful of titles.
He spent two years working as an electricity retail policy analyst and two additional years as a planning manager for Executive Council before moving into a director role in then-Housing and Urban Affairs. Between 2011 and 2020, Steward held seven different assistant deputy minister roles in a number of different branches of government. In 2020, he was appointed the associate deputy minister of health until he became the deputy minister of mental health and addictions in October 2022.
Stewart brings with him tremendous institutional knowledge that was acquired throughout the terms of three different parties and eight premiers dating back to Ralph Klein’s days in the Legislature.
