Key Influencer – Jon Horsman – UCP Leadership Candidate
Jon Horsman is the newest candidate to enter the UCP leadership race. He does not have any prior political involvement and has introduced himself as a political newcomer. However, the former investment banker is a long-time UCP member. Horsman spent many years building a successful career with ATB Financial, during which he claims that he fought for Alberta on Bay Street and Wall Street.
Horsman’s leadership campaign was launched on July 5, at the Hotel Arts in Calgary. He was motivated to run after hearing from concerned Albertans and hopes to set them on a path to a more prosperous future. He has already proposed a “prosperity plan” for allocating Alberta’s nearly $4 billion revenue-driven surplus: 25% of this surplus would go to debt repayment, 25% into the Heritage Trust Savings Fund, 25% into investments in infrastructure and diversification, and 25% directly to Albertans to help offset the rising cost of living.
Horsman was raised on a farm outside of Regina, Saskatchewan. He moved to Edmonton in the 1990s, where he obtained an MBA in Finance at the University of Alberta. He currently resides in Calgary, where he raised his family.
