Rob Morgan, Chief Executive Officer of the Alberta Energy Regulator

Rob Morgan was announced to be the new Chief Executive Officer of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) on February 13, 2025. The appointment follows the resignation of the AER’s former CEO Laurie Pushor. Morgan previously acted as President and CEO of Strathcona Resources. Under his tenure, Strathcona Resources rose to become the fifth largest oil producer in the country.  

He was trained professionally as an engineer, having worked as a field production engineer at the outset of his career. He then quickly rose over his 40 years in the oil and gas industry, increasingly involved in the operations of the upstream oil and gas industry. Morgan additionally worked at companies including Viking Energy Royalty Trust, Harvest Operations Corp., Murphy Oil, and Crew Energy.
