Dr. Mark Joffe – Interim Chief Medical Officer of Health
As referenced in our feature article this week, AHS vice-president Dr. Mark Joffe has been appointed as Dr. Deena Hinshaw’s successor as Alberta’s top doctor. His position officially commenced on November 14th, 2022 and will remain in the role until such time as his appointment is rescinded by the Minister of Health.
He currently holds the position of Vice-President and Medical Director – Cancer Care Alberta, Clinical Support Services and Clinical Excellence and has served with Alberta Health Services for more than 25 years (formerly Capital Health). Dr. Joffe also held the title of Senior Medical Director for Infection Prevention and Control.
Dr. Joffe brings a wealth of experience and impressive resume to the CMOH office having served on many governance boards. His experience included time as the Chair of the Royal Alexandra Hospital Medical Staff Society, President of the Capital Region Medical Staff Association, as well as President of the Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases of Canada. He also held staff positions with the Edmonton Institution for Women and the Edmonton Sexually Transmitted Diseases Centre.
In taking this new position, Dr. Joffe will remain in his current role given his interim status. Additionally, it has been reported that he will not be receiving any additional compensation for his time served as the Chief Medical Officer of Health.
