Here’s What’s Coming at the Second Annual Non-Profit Day

Following the success of the first ever Non-Profit Day, hosted in April, 2022, we are pleased to be partnering with the Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (ECVO) to bring you the second annual nonprofit day. This year’s event is built around the themes of resiliency, transformation, and advocacy and politics. As the nonprofit sector continues to recover from the pandemic and with an upcoming election, Nonprofit Day sessions have been developed to inspire and challenge nonprofit leaders to rethink the way they operate day-to-day. We’re talking, 10,000 foot, systems conversations.

Without further ado, here’s what you have to look forward to at Non-Profit Day 2023!

New! By far one of the biggest pieces of feedback provided by attendees was the desire to have more opportunity to network with other organizations. So, this year, we’ve done just that! Nonprofit Day 2023 kicks off on March 9th with a networking supper followed by a keynote address delivered by Dr. Alina Turner, the co-founder/co-founder of HelpSeeker.

Notable! This year, we are fortunate to feature two keynote speakers. As mentioned above, Dr. Alina Turner will kick things off with a keynote address on the 9th. On the 10th, we’re excited to share that Bruce MacDonald, President and CEO of Imagine Canada, will set the stage for the remainder of the conference with a keynote address. Another special guest that we’re pleased to be welcoming to the conference is Paula MacLean, CEO of MMCS Ltd – Learning for Leaders, who will be speaking to planning for executive succession in your nonprofit.

Election Readiness! The provincial budget is set to be released on February 28, 2023, with an election scheduled for May 29, 2023. All things point to this being a very tight election race and to help equip you with valuable tools and expertise, we’ve designated an entire stream of sessions to this topic. We’ll help delineate what it means to be political without being partisan, provide key information about third party advertising, and highlight different opportunities for you and your organization to be involved in the election. We’ll round this off with a presentation from renowned pollster, Janet Brown, who will provide a current polling update.

Leadership! We’d be remiss if we didn’t highlight the leadership conference stream. Here we’ll talk nonprofit succession, risk management, and board diversity. Also, unique to Alberta, we’re hosting an entire session about the Sovereignty Act and what it means to your nonprofit.

This is but a slice of the action-packed day and a half that we’ve built to support the needs that the nonprofit community have shared with us. We know that opportunities to consider sector transformation, to develop meaningful relationships with like-minded counterparts, and to take a hard look at how your organization is involved in politics are few and far between. It’s our hope that combining all of this (and more!) into a day and half will limit the draw on already stretched capacities and, in some ways, increase the existing capacity.

Non-Profit Day 2023 is fast approaching, and we hope we’ll see you there! Early bird tickets for the full conference are only $175 if you’re a current Alberta Counsel client or an ECVO member, or $225 for those of you who are not clients or members. Ticket options for only one day are available, too. But act quickly - early bird pricing ends on February 21st!
